JOU 181 Film Production: Sámi and Indigenous Storytelling through Film
In this course students will learn about filming and create film stories. They will gain experience with all aspects of film production techniques (filming, editing, and sound work) and produce a film in any genre, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes.

- Entry requirements
• Applicants must have completed the course JOU 180 Introduction to Screenwriting: Sámi and Indigenous Storytelling through Film (10 ECTS), or they must submit a screenplay with their application, which must be approved by the Sámi University of Applied Sciences.
• Higher Education Entrance Qualification. Admission may also be gained by means of other qualifications recognized as being on a par with the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, such as recognition of prior learning and work experience.
• For applicants with foreign education, the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification are specified in the GSU-list that can be found on the web site from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir). For language requirements we refer to the GSU-list.- Content
Students will learn about filming and create film stories.
In this course, the student will gain experience with all aspects of film production techniques (filming, editing, and sound work) and produce a film in any genre, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes. The students must demonstrate through their films that they have acquired a solid understanding of the creative and practical aspects of filmmaking, and that they are able, individually and collaboratively with other students, to complete and deliver a film production within the defined deadline at a high professional level.
In this course, students will also learn how a film concept or idea can be developed into a finished film. They will write synopses and create shooting plan. They will learn to use cameras and understand the various roles in a film crew. Students will also be taught how to work with editing software and how to finalize their films within the given timeframe.
- Conditions for taking exam
The following conditions must be accepted by the study coordinator before the student is allowed to take the exam:
• The student must prepare a film production plan and a shooting plan, film and edit the movie within the given timeframe.
• The student must participate in at least 80 % of the scheduled teaching.- Examination
The exam is a practical film project. Students will work on the film throughout the entire course period. The film can be in any genre, and its duration must not exceed 10 minutes.
Grades are awarded according to the ECTS grading scale, where A is the highest grade and E is the lowest passing grade. The grade F indicates failure.
